The actress began acting when was given a guest appearance on the TV drama Party of Five in 1996. While she was admitted to New York University, Kate Hudson was more interested pursuing a career as a showbiz entrepreneur than a degree. After acting in some minor films, she was offered the role that would turn out to be a major breakthrough in her professional career. She was chosen to play Penny Lane in the comedy-drama film Almost Famous. In spite of being a box-office failure it was received a favourable critiques from critics, and it established Kate as an actor within the American film industry.
