Being initially inspired by the shadows of trees she observed on grass, she set about studying a method that did not convey the selected object as a two-dimensional image on canvas. The subject instead transforms into a reproduction of itself, where the surface becomes the carrier of it's own painterly interpretation, especially when the subjects are live or perishable objects like people or fruit. Alexa Meade's painting style, which is very ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only thing of Alexa's art that survives is her photograph. Since the painting and photographic methods are closely coordinated it creates a trompe l'oeil effect, that creates the illusion of three dimensions can only be seen at specific locations, like the area around the eyes or hair. Meade can sometimes incorporate her painting into the surrounding three-dimensional environment that allows the model to be a part of their own world. This eliminates the distinctions between painting, photography and installation.
